Delta Events

Delta has now gone past it’s 50th summer event mark and it looks like the figure could be as high as 70 when the event season comes to an end at the end of Sept, although the corporate CP type work carries on through the winter.

Julian Roe the MD said "it has been a busy summer and the first time we have had to employ specialist guys on a six month contract to help support the event effort. Without them I would have been in the nut house, they have been brilliant."

There have been some events lost due to the current financial climate, but we have been surprised to see others actually getting bigger and bigger each year i.e. Boomtown Festival, last year 5.5k, this year nearer 15k, so it’s not all doom and gloom out there.

Delta − Secure elite Category 2 Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) Status

Delta was assessed by SSIAB in mid May in order to achieve the coveted ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) or CMS (Central Monitoring Station) status. With this assessment and ultimately the accreditation confirmed, Delta are now one of only a handful of companies in the UK with both manned guarding and ARC capability.

Trying to keep up with the times and the gradual move from traditional and expensive "man guarding" contracts, more and more companies are now realising they can reduce their guarding budgets without necessarily compromising their security.

Julian Roe the MD of Delta said "one of our main clients suggested to us some time ago that this would be the way forward for their company, which essentially set us on this path. It has been an expensive exercise, but having the SSIAB accreditation makes me now realise not only will it be worth it in the future, it probably will secure our existence going forward as we can offer all disciplines of security cover rather than just the traditional guarding options."

He continued "Our Ops Director the tech team and engineers deserve a huge pat on the back, achieving this accreditation in the tight time frame that we gave ourselves, it is a credit to their commitment to the company, I am really proud to be who I am today because of these guys, I think it’s my round!"

Merthyr Tydfil Borough Council appoints Delta Security as their security contractor for the next 3 years

In May this year Delta along with several other companies tendered in an open forum for the Council Security Contract for Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. After a lengthy process it was revealed last week that Delta had been awarded the whole of Merthyr’s security as per the schedule quoted against.

The MD of Delta Security, Julian Roe said "We are delighted with this for several reasons, firstly its new business to our South Wales Division, secondly it’s the first time we have been past the PQQ stage of one of these public tenders, and lastly, it proves that local companies can make ground on the nationals in an open market place, which this tender process truly was.."

Our Director for the South Wales Region David Gowen-Porter has put in some long hours at Head Office in order to produce a competitive quote which ticked all the boxes the Merthyr Council representatives were looking for, along with the ability to provide the close support that the national companies sometimes fail to do. We have taken out some big hitters on the UK security market who I know will be kicking themselves about losing such a good business opportunity to a regionally based SME like Delta. It just goes to show, bigger is not always better!

SIA Licensing Changes

In 2010, the SIA will be changing the structure of the all SIA licensing courses. Goose and Julian have been working with City & Guilds over 2009 putting together the new CP course that all close protection training organisations will have to teach. The finished article is been put out to the other awarding bodies for scrutiny and now having passed that, is with the SIA for approval.

Question bank writing will start in September 2009.

Julian Roe the MD of DSG said, “it has been excellent working with Goose and City & Guilds and being at the forefront of Close Protection licensing in the UK. Many people have always felt the course was based on more military and individual thinking. What we have done is hopefully to standardise the course according to the brief the SIA gave us, so all have equal access and a chance to benefit from a more generic course structure, based not only on our own experiences, but those from other CP bodies who have provided invaluable support over this exercise.”

Using a mixture of highly visible local and Delta personnel, the road blocks were put in place, the procession was escorted through a packed out St Paul’s, as the sunshine brought everybody out to enjoy the day.

Working closely on three levels (Police Silver Command / Carnival Event Management / Ground support units), Delta teams worked hard through a hot and humid day to produce one of the most trouble free carnivals for many years, with only 4 arrest and one injury at approximately 3am on Sunday morning.

“Our plan lasted for about two minutes, before we started having improvise and adapt to the carnival as it became it’s own animal” said Managing Director Julian Roe. “We had vertical learning curve from the first hour, but we had an excellent team of professional local and out of town operatives, they put in monster shifts to ensure the continuity for the event was there and this dedication contributed significantly to the overall success of the whole day from our point of view”.
